1954 (Part 1)

The Village Management Board offers the Dutch Reformed Church the Oukloof land (erf 216) in exchange for vacant land on the other side of the railway line next to the school. This new land will be used for the proposed new coloured settlement.

According to the Dutch Reformed Church Council minutes:

“The church land on the other side of the tracks is not of use to the church but the removal of the coloured houses [in Oukloof] from the land will increase the value of the bordering church ground (erf 333) and the old location land. Taking this into consideration and in order to collaborate to get separate neighbourhoods, the Church Consistory approves in principal.”
